Meditation Monday: Needs

"And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus."  ~ Philippians 4:19 NIV A lot of people got it all wrong. A lot of "pastors" are spreading numerous lies about Christianity. One of those is that if you're truly obeying God, you'll be loaded. Paul obeyed God, yet he worked as a tent maker to make ends meet at times. John the Baptist obeyed God, yet he lived in the wilderness, and his food wasn't exactly luxurious (not to mention he wasn't exactly fashionable). Jesus Himself didn't have a spot to lay His head , yet who's going to argue that He didn't obey God? Notice in the verse above (and there are more in the Bible that echo the same thought) that Paul tells us God will meet all our needs. Does it say anything in there about getting our wants too? God promises to provide food. He doesn't promise the latest iPhone. God promises shelter. He doesn'

Meditation Monday: All things

"I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me" ~ Philippians 4:13 This verse is on a sticky on my dry-erase board. I've memorized it. Because in the grit of life, when all that stuff comes and slaps you in the face, it's hard to remember. We can do all things through Christ. Not some things. Not a few things. All things. Everything God wants us to do, He'll give us the strength to get it done. Last week I wrote something really similar to this, but it bears repeating. Witnessing to your classmate? God strengthens you. Staying in your marriage when your husband thinks the floor is his hamper? God strengthens you. Reading your Bible even though it's already 10:45 p.m. and you still have a test to study for? God strengthens you. Loving your coworker when she just cut you off in the parking lot, and then blamed you that her project isn't done? God strengthens you. Accepting the call God has for you, even though it means getti

Meditation Monday: Dragging

“ I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint .” ~ Jeremiah 31:25 Ever notice how easy it is to get tired? And when you’re tired from everything you had to squeeze into your day and the thought of what you have to do tomorrow is crowding down on you… It’s very easy to give up. To say, “Forget it.” To bury your head under your pillows, even though you have homework and dishes and email and your cat’s clawing at your foot trying to get you to feed her… It’s easy to say, “I’m done.” Honestly, there are days where I’m dragging from morning to night. There’s so much to do, and so little time. The lack of sleep from the night before crushing me, but too much to do to take a nap… I won’t be able to focus, my mind will be spinning, wondering what needs to be done next…wondering how I can do it all… “I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.” God gives us the strength we need to get it done. He gives us the power to get through even when we

Meditation Monday: True riches

“ Better is a little with the fear of the Lord , Than great treasure with trouble.” ~ Proverbs 15:16 Celebrities have it all. Those big houses, fancy cars, amazing vacations, and hordes of admirers. Ever-expanding bank accounts, name-brand bags and designer shoes, perfume lines and make-up boutiques in their own homes. Not to mention closets with enough clothes to fill a small department store. And we can’t forget the messy public break-ups, the cameras flashing into every moment of their private lives, the unflattering photos paraded around by people consumed with jealousy… And the pain of an empty heart. Because when you watch these actresses, these socialites, these singers, parading themselves around as sex objects and letting their bodies be ravaged by men’s eyes, you have to wonder… How empty do they feel, not knowing there is a Savior Who loves them? Whose heart aches when He sees what they’re doing to themselves? Who longs for them to come to their

Meditation Monday: What's so scary?

" The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?" ~ Psalm 27:1 NKJV  It's easy to fear. Satan likes to tell us that God doesn't care, or that He doesn't know what He is doing, or that He's not able to help us. But, if God is our salvation, if He is our strength, who do we have to fear?  We know God is all-powerful , all-knowing , everywhere at once , loving , gracious , merciful , righteous , just , willing and desiring to cleanse us and heal us and make us more like Christ... Do you know anyone or anything that can compete with that? I don't. So if nothing and no one can hold a candle to our loving Father and Holy Savior, who is there for us to fear? Nothing. No one.
