Gifts

Today found me very not in the Christmas spirit. Usually, I'm a last minute shopper. There's two reasons for this. First, I usually forget I have shopping to do until a few days before (don't ask me how, I don't know why I can remember random stuff like how many tablespoons equal a cup* but I forget all about getting presents for Christmas). Second, I spend a long time actually picking out what to give someone. Needless to say, this combination means I'm usually grabbing gifts two days before Christmas. This year, though, I finished my shopping a week ago Monday. I went to the mall yesterday, but it was just to hang out with a friend (and there was one more thing I was thinking about getting for my mom). All I had to do was wait for the rest of the presents to arrive in the mail... Until today. All of my gifts came by Monday except one. I wasn't too worried, because that one said it'd be delivered by today. Sure, it'd be a bit of an inconvienie...

Please remember

It's almost Thanksgiving here in the U.S.A., and while I don't want to do some cheesy post to tie in with it (I think giving thanks is something we should talk about all year long), I did just want to say that I'm thankful for all of you. I'm thankful that you take the time to read my musings. I'm thankful that you ask questions. I'm thankful when you point out something you disagree with (let's face it, I'm no where near perfect). Some of you I know personally. Some of you I don't know very well. Some of you are my closest friends. Some of you I've never met. But if we had a few minutes, where we could sit and talk together, before we left, there's a few things I'd want you to know. That I pray you realize through the craziness of the season ahead of us, and all year long. So as we rush into Thanksgiving, and into Christmas, please...remember... You are a beautiful woman. Your worth isn't in what you wear. What you lo...

"They're dead."

Okay, let's talk about another Disney movie! As I've mentioned before , I love Disney movies. I don't care that technically I'm an adult (although I know some people who would argue whether reaching a certain age makes you an adult or not). I plan on watching Disney movies until I'm ninety, and probably beyond that. So another movie I really love is Mulan (by the way, this is one of the few Disney movies where the good guys get most of the awesome lines). I just think it's so funny. Mushu is probably the best character (well, okay, little cricket dude Cri-Kee is pretty awesome too). And I adore Mulan's grandmother. Although she's not in it much, Grandmother Fa adds so much to the movie. Without her and Mushu, it'd be pretty dull. In fact, she gets to say most of my favorite lines (yay Grandma!). One such line is from the scene where Grandmother Fa and Mulan's mother, Fa Li, are waiting for Mulan to arrive in town to get ready to meet t...

Meditation Monday: Needs

"And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus."  ~ Philippians 4:19 NIV A lot of people got it all wrong. A lot of "pastors" are spreading numerous lies about Christianity. One of those is that if you're truly obeying God, you'll be loaded. Paul obeyed God, yet he worked as a tent maker to make ends meet at times. John the Baptist obeyed God, yet he lived in the wilderness, and his food wasn't exactly luxurious (not to mention he wasn't exactly fashionable). Jesus Himself didn't have a spot to lay His head , yet who's going to argue that He didn't obey God? Notice in the verse above (and there are more in the Bible that echo the same thought) that Paul tells us God will meet all our needs. Does it say anything in there about getting our wants too? God promises to provide food. He doesn't promise the latest iPhone. God promises shelter. He doesn...

Meditation Monday: True riches

“ Better is a little with the fear of the Lord , Than great treasure with trouble.” ~ Proverbs 15:16 Celebrities have it all. Those big houses, fancy cars, amazing vacations, and hordes of admirers. Ever-expanding bank accounts, name-brand bags and designer shoes, perfume lines and make-up boutiques in their own homes. Not to mention closets with enough clothes to fill a small department store. And we can’t forget the messy public break-ups, the cameras flashing into every moment of their private lives, the unflattering photos paraded around by people consumed with jealousy… And the pain of an empty heart. Because when you watch these actresses, these socialites, these singers, parading themselves around as sex objects and letting their bodies be ravaged by men’s eyes, you have to wonder… How empty do they feel, not knowing there is a Savior Who loves them? Whose heart aches when He sees what they’re doing to themselves? Who longs for them to come to their...

Just listen

I totally get where Martha's coming from. Most of us probably do. Most of us have a little more in common with her than we do with Mary. If you remember, back in Bible days when Jesus walked on earth, he and his disciples used to go to the house of three siblings a lot. These three, Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, always seemed to have a lot of people over when Jesus came. And Martha, being the awesome, ninja-skills hostess she was, liked to make sure everything was perfect. A little too perfect. I can imagine it now: a servant waiting with fresh water of just the right temperature right by the door for washing feet, and soft towels for wiping them off before the guests entered the main part of the house. As your feet are being washed, you can hear the soft strains of harp music wafting through the hall. The spicy scent of kebabs and the warmth of baked bread drifts past you, as the taste of cumin and clove fills your mouth. You cross the scrubbed-shiny floor, and are greeted by ano...
